    — — — — — — –
Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, Psych, Electronic, Hip Hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions.

Based out of Santa Ana, CA, Free The Robots started as a side project by Alfaro in 2003 while also playing with different bands, producing MC’s, and DJing full time. Having worked with so many different styles of music, Free the Robots brought everything together under one roof, allowing further exploration. With the use of samples, Controllers, and other live instruments, Alfaro creates a balance between the sounds of the past, present & future.

Free the Robots has reached a worldwide audience since its humble beginnings and found its place among the top artists in this genre. With the constant development of Alfaro’s sound and live show, Free the Robots Has shared the stage with the likes of Prefuse 73, Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, the Glitch Mob, Nosaj Thing, Afrika Bambaataa and more.

On March 2010, Free The Robots released his debut album titled “CTRL ALT DELETE” on Daddy Kev’s imprint, Alpha Pup Records.

As music producing turns more digital everyday, classic needle-on-record turntablism has become a more rarefied artform. And few DJ’s can handle those spinning discs of vinyl like Cut Chemist, from L.A.’s fine musical troupes Jurassic-5 and Ozomatli. Cut Chemist, aka Lucas McFadden, is known for his back-to-basics methodology, utilizing just one turntable, some looping pedals and an expansive imagination. On his upcoming release, Sound of the Police , Cut stitches together his collection of records from Africa. Expect to hear Nigeria’s Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, Ethiojazz originator Mulatu Astatke, and more mixed with Brazillian beats and old school soul rhythms, all mixed live on two 20 minute tracks. Intended to be a practice session for his performance before Mulatu Astatke’s visit to Los Angeles for the Timeless Series, Cut has released the tracks as an insight into his live act and the aural architecture that precedes it. Like the works for DJ Spooky and DJ Shadow, Cut’s tracks are sonic essays investigating the conversation between musical styles. Sound of the Police investigates the sounds of the African diaspora as displacement, immigration, and opportunity cross-pollinated rhythms from Harlem to Havana to Addis Ababa and on and on and on.

Dubspot Radio Podcast: Ep 2 Lorn (mix set & interview) by Dubspot

Our very special guest on Episode 2 of Dubspot Radio & Podcast Series is none other than LORN, artist/producer who recently unleashed an excellent debut album titled Nothing Else on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. Lorn dropped a brilliant mix-up which features some incredible and recent commercial rap beats blended effortlessly with some of his own impressive cuts (from the new album) plus exclusive beats from various sources and the LA beat-scene and beyond. After the mix, Lorn talks with Dubspot Instructor and host Matt Shadetek about the creative process behind the album, coming from the midwest, and how Flying Lotus discovered his music through MySpace. Shadetek also dropped a wicked mix to heat things up.
